A Clinical Study of Colorectal Cnacer



Abstract
This paper represents a clinical analysis and review of 143 cases of colorectal cancer who were treated in General Surgery of Taegu Catholic University Hospital from April 1981 to March 1991.
@ES The results are as follow:
@EN 1) Age incidence showed most prevalence in 6th decades, comprising 28.7% of cases and the ratio between male and female was 1.3 : 1.
2) Location of tumor was most frequent in the rectum(58.7%), cecum(14%) being next.
3) The most frequent symptoms and signs were abdominal pain in the right colon(63.8%) and the left colon(68.4%), and bloody stool(67.5%) in the rectum.
4) Symptom duration prior to admission was within 6 months in 79.0%.
5) Diagnosis was made by digital examination, 89.6%, by sigmoidoscopy, 76.7%, by barium enema, 80.3%.
6) Abdominoperineal resection was frequently performed (29.3%).
7) The most common histopathologic type of tumor was adenocarcinoma(95.1%).
8) The tumors of Dukes' classification A was 6.3%, B, 24.5%, D, 18.9%.
9) The most common distant metastatic site was the liver(9.1%).
10) The most common postoperative complication was wound infection(11.9%).
